This fall, we had the opportunity to sit down with one of Mission Bauer Hockey’s premier sponsored athletes, Kirk French. He is one of two players we focused on to get the roller hockey world ready for the upcoming Winter National tournament. Mission Bauer is combining two of their factory teams for the tournament so we had the opportunity to interview one player from each.

Servicemen and servicewomen in the military sacrifice. They put their lives on the line for our freedom. They put their country before themselves, and in the case of Andrea and Ben, they sacrifice the ability to live in the same city due to their service in their respective branches. Andrea is in the Air Force and Ben is in the Marines. When we first met up with Andrea, Ben was deployed overseas and she told us their incredible story. The fact that they have maintained their commitment to one another while being separated, often by thousands of miles, for months at a time.

Love doesn’t know distances. Love doesn’t discriminate between Skype dates and candlelight dinners. Love only knows love, and Andrea and Ben love one another. Their professions take them to opposite ends of the world at times, in very different situations, performing very different duties. In their professional lives, Andrea and Ben couldn’t be more different from one another. Two very different people, but as the card Ben gave to Andrea so perfectly articulated, they are two different people, with one perfect love.

A VERY special thank you to Kelly Aull from Mint Weddings for introducing us to Andrea and Ben. We LOVE you and the fact that you put your faith in our studio to document one of the biggest days in your couples’ lives! Also, a shout out to our new photographer friend, Boyd Harris, for being such a blast to work with!

One of the things we love most about Same Day Edits is that they don’t reveal their direction until the day of the wedding. Drafted from scratch each and every time, the Same Day Edit always allows us the opportunity to have fun with our couples in that we never know what they are going to look like until we get going. . . . and they never end up like we plan.

As we arrived in town early for this shoot, we met up with Rhonnie, Kimberly, and the rest of the bridal party as they began their plan to rehearse their grand entrance. So at 9pm the night before, the group got together for one last run-through of the grand entrance in the reception ballroom with a simple little speaker from the hotel room and a laptop. As we began filming the rehearsal, it became more and more apparent how large of a production this was going to be for their reception and we knew we had to make it a fun part of their Same Day Edit.

With that in mind, here it is, as shown to over 200 of their closest family and friends at the reception.

A very special thank you goes out to James Lee from All the Above Events for his assistance with making sure the presentation went off without a hitch at the wedding! Also, thank you to Mariemil and Paolo from Maolo Photography for being such great photographers to work with!

Family. Life. Surroundings. Shelter. Relationships. Stories. Just a few things that we are most thankful for in our lives here at Threaded Films. One of my favorite things to do (when I get the chance) is walk with Bailey the Boxer to the studio from my house. It’s a short walk, only 15 minutes or so, but in that time, I have the ability to relax, walk, and take in the sights and sounds of nothingness. Often times, we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, work, and our daily madness. Thanksgiving is such a wonderful holiday in that it often allows us the opportunity to pause, if only for a day, and remind ourselves that there can always be more to this life than we think, and sometimes, we simply need to stop. . . . . and be thankful for all that we have.

These are a couple images I saw today on my walk into the studio and I wanted to share them with you as they prove a couple points. First, Fall DOES happen in California. Second, we are never too old to be amazed by our surroundings as we were when we were children. Third, and perhaps most important, sometimes the most beautiful and amazing things that you never noticed before can be right in front of your eyes. . . . . all you have to do is look.

Happy Thanksgiving. – Steve

Love this branch as the leaves are literally turning from green to red.

This one is my favorite.

We all have ways of communicating with one another. We are a society of beings who need to connect with other people. Across the world, billions of people communicate simultaneously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 65 days a year. It’s ingrained into human nature. We interact. We deliver. We receive. and we love.

And when we break down that last statement into the communication between two people, the way we communicate our love becomes so unique, yet so universal at the same time. Every couple has different ways of saying things to one another, but everyone communicates with their significant other in some way, shape, or form. A simple look or a silly expression. A nickname that only two people share with one another. A simple gesture, nod, smile, or gaze that when sent to the right person, can mean everything, but to others. . . nothing at all. As the officiant of this trailer puts it, “We all create our own language.” Dan and Michelle most certainly have a language for one another that is unique to them. We found it so fitting to place a shot into their trailer where Dan fixes Michelle’s hair as they are in the middle of the ceremony. During such a formal and public statement of their commitment to one another, Dan takes a second to show his affection for Michelle without saying anything at all. A simple and small gesture. But when sent to the right individual, it means everything in the world.

This one if full of fun as Dan and Michelle’s story is full of characters who are not camera shy by any stretch of the imagination. As the girls sit and craft together the table napkins for the reception, the guys are up to a game of ping pong with pizza. Throw in an incredible venue at Rancho Valencia with a swimming pool and . . . . well. . . . just press play and see for yourself.

A special thank you to Alison Howard from One & Only Events for her help with the time-line the day of the wedding. Also a big shout out to Denise Bovee from Denise Bovee Photography. We love making new photographer friends and Denise was great to work with!
